Hi,

I have agreed to caption for a lady at the NFB convention. I am happy to do so; I wouldn't have volunteered for it if I wasn't, but I've never done it before.

Basically, I'm just curious if anyone can give me some general tips on what is helpful and what isn't for this kind of thing. Like which certain details might be appreciated and which are just annoying.

I understand that to a degree, it's personal preference, but it would be good to have some kind of an idea. I have been in contact with her and have told her I am happy to meet up with her before the actual event that I will caption for, but I'm not sure if that will happen because it will depend on our schedules.

So it's not that I'm unwilling to ask her-I intend to if we have the opportunity to mee up beforehand-but I'm asking here on the off-chance we don't get to. Any constructive comments are welcome.

Hi,

Do any of you know how CART works? With Braille displays?

I couldn't get CART to really work when I tried it. At least I think it was Cart. I was giving a presentation at SERID in Tennissee and needed it. So they loaded a web page with the captions on it, but the fact that it was in real time became an issue when I used it in Safari on my iPhone. If there is no way to scrol backward, or if there is no buffer built in, I really don't see how a slower braille reader can take advantage of this service. I'm a quick one, but many are not.
